Our Orthodontic Services
Whether you’re correcting a bite, closing gaps, or maintaining results you’ve already achieved, our Forest Hills orthodontic team builds a treatment plan around your specific teeth — not a template.

Clear Aligners
Invisalign straightens teeth using a series of custom-made, removable clear aligners that are replaced every one to two weeks. Because they're virtually invisible and can be taken out to eat and brush, Invisalign is particularly popular with adults and teens who want to improve their smile without the look of traditional braces. At Madison Dental Art, we are a certified Invisalign provider in Forest Hills — we handle your full treatment in-house, from the initial 3D scan to your final aligner.

Dental Braces
Traditional metal and ceramic braces remain the gold standard for correcting crowded teeth, overbites, underbites, crossbites, and gaps. They work by applying consistent, controlled pressure to gradually move teeth into their ideal position over time. At Madison Dental Art, we offer both metal braces (most effective for complex cases) and ceramic braces (tooth-colored brackets for a more discreet look). Braces are effective for children, teens, and adults — and our orthodontic team designs every treatment plan around your specific bite, not a one-size-fits-all formula.
When Should You Consider Orthodontic Treatment?
Orthodontic issues aren’t always obvious — and many patients don’t realize how much their bite or alignment is affecting their daily life. Consider scheduling an evaluation if you notice any of the following:
- Teeth that are visibly crowded, overlapping, or crooked
- Gaps between teeth you’d like to close
- An overbite, underbite, crossbite, or open bite affecting your chewing
- Jaw discomfort, clicking, or uneven wear on your teeth
- Difficulty cleaning between teeth properly due to crowding
- You completed treatment years ago and haven’t been wearing your retainer
- A child age 7 or older who hasn’t had an orthodontic evaluation
There’s no wrong age to start. Call (718) 268-8228 to schedule a consultation — we’ll tell you exactly what we see and what your options are.

Your Orthodontic Journey: Step by Step
Step 1 — Free Consultation & Evaluation
We examine your teeth, take digital X-rays or a panoramic scan if needed, and assess your bite and jaw alignment. You’ll leave the first appointment with a clear picture of what treatment involves, how long it takes, and what it costs.
Step 2 — Custom Treatment Planning
We design your treatment plan — whether braces or Invisalign — mapped to the specific movements your teeth need to make. For Invisalign, this includes a 3D digital simulation so you can see your projected result before treatment begins.
Step 3 — Starting Treatment
For braces: brackets are bonded to your teeth at a single appointment. For Invisalign: your first set of aligners is fitted and you receive instructions for wear and care. Either way, you leave the appointment already in treatment.
Step 4 — Regular Check-In Appointments
Braces patients visit every 4–6 weeks for wire adjustments. Invisalign patients check in every 6–8 weeks to confirm progress and receive new aligner sets. These appointments are quick — typically 20–30 minutes.
Step 5 — Retainers & Long-Term Results
Once treatment is complete, custom retainers are fitted to hold your teeth in their new position. Wearing your retainer as directed is what makes your results permanent. We’ll follow up to make sure everything is stable.
Dental Insurance Accepted
We work with most major dental insurance plans, including:

Frequently Asked Questions About Orthodontics
At what age should a child have their first orthodontic evaluation?
The American Association of Orthodontists recommends a first evaluation by age 7. At this stage, enough permanent teeth have come in to identify developing bite issues — even if treatment won’t begin for a few years. Early evaluation doesn’t always mean early treatment, but it gives us a chance to monitor and plan ahead.
Can adults get braces or Invisalign?
Absolutely. There’s no upper age limit for orthodontic treatment. Tooth movement works the same way in adults as in younger patients — treatment may take slightly longer in some cases, but the results are equally effective. More adults than ever are pursuing orthodontic care, and Invisalign in particular is very popular among working professionals.
How long does orthodontic treatment take?
It depends on the complexity of your case. Minor corrections can take as little as 6–9 months with Invisalign. Most comprehensive braces treatments take 18–24 months. We’ll give you a realistic timeline estimate at your consultation.
Does orthodontic treatment hurt?
There is typically some tenderness for a day or two after braces are tightened or a new set of Invisalign aligners is started — your teeth are responding to new pressure. This usually resolves within 48 hours and can be managed with over-the-counter pain relief if needed. Most patients adjust quickly and describe ongoing treatment as comfortable.
What happens if I stop wearing my retainer?
Teeth will begin to shift back toward their original position — sometimes quickly, sometimes gradually. If it’s been a while since you’ve worn your retainer and it no longer fits, come in and we’ll assess whether a new retainer is sufficient or whether additional correction is needed.
Does insurance cover Invisalign?
Some plans include Invisalign under their orthodontic benefits — often the same benefit that would apply to braces. Coverage varies widely by plan. We’ll confirm your specific benefits before your consultation so you know what to expect financially.
