Tooth pain doesn’t wait. At Madison Dental Art, we’ve been relieving dental pain for patients in Forest Hills and across Queens for over 30 years. If you suspect you need a root canal, our team will evaluate your tooth, walk you through your options, and get you comfortable — without the anxiety.
These are the most common warning signs that the pulp of your tooth may be infected or damaged:
Important: Some patients have significant pulp damage with no noticeable pain at all. This is one of the most important reasons to keep up with regular dental check-ups — damage can be detected on X-rays before it becomes severe or leads to bone loss.
If you’re experiencing any of these symptoms, don’t wait. Call Madison Dental Art today.
“Root canal” has a reputation it no longer deserves. With modern local anesthesia and today’s techniques, most patients at Madison Dental Art report that the procedure feels no different from having a cavity filled — far less uncomfortable than they expected.
During treatment, you won’t feel anything beyond mild pressure. After the procedure, some tenderness around the treated area is normal and typically resolves within 2–3 days. Over-the-counter pain relievers are usually all that’s needed.
Here’s the key thing to understand: the pain most people fear is the pain caused by the infection itself — not the treatment. Root canal therapy is what eliminates that pain.
When a tooth is severely infected, patients sometimes wonder: is it simpler to just pull it? It may seem like the quicker fix, but tooth extraction comes with long-term consequences that aren’t always obvious upfront.
Removing a tooth without replacing it leads to bone loss in the jaw, shifting of neighboring teeth, and changes in your bite over time. Replacement options — implants or bridges — require additional procedures, more appointments, and significantly higher overall cost.
Root canal therapy, when successful, allows you to keep your natural tooth for life. Endodontic treatment has a very high success rate, and many treated teeth last decades with proper care.
At Madison Dental Art, we always explore every option to save your tooth before recommending extraction. Preserving your natural smile is always our first priority.
A note on crowns: after root canal therapy, a crown is often recommended to protect the treated tooth and improve long-term success. At Madison Dental Art, crown placement can be coordinated at the same practice — one team, one location.
Most patients return to their normal daily activities the same day or the day after treatment.
You may experience for a few days:
To support recovery:
With proper care, a tooth treated with root canal therapy can last a lifetime.

Dr.Chao is the best dentist I have gone to by far. He’s very patient and understanding when it comes to my fear of the dentist. He’s very gentle and never rushes a procedure. He tells me what he’s doing before doing anything. The front staff is very welcoming and friendly they make you feel like they know you forever. They also send you reminders about your up coming appointments. I wouldn’t go any place else!
